Bass - John Day River - Oregon
Oregon’s John Day River winds its way through some beautiful country, providing not only a scenic backdrop but also outstanding smallmouth fishing. No matter if you select fly rods or ultra light spinning, there’s plenty of opportunities here to connect with large numbers of acrobatic bass that run one to three pounds. Four to five pounders are taken throughout the season, with the odd fish pushing past six pounds. When action is hot, 35 to 50 fish days are not uncommon. Float trips allow anglers to cover a maximum of water, and get into areas without easy public access. The outfitter has been running trips here for many years and his crew of guides know all the right fishing locations as well as how to set up a comfortable camp each night and prepare inviting meals right at streamside. For the smallmouth addict this is a unique trip in a part of the United States not normally associated with quality bass fishing.
