Bonefish - Los Roques - Venezuela
A superb bonefishery located amidst a series of predominantly unsettled islands some 70 miles off the Venezuelan mainland. Blessed with National Park Status, Los Roques is protected from
over development, and fishing, and thus offers an untrammeled network of fertile flats loaded with bones. On shallower flats, schools of
15 to 25 bones averaging three pounds are commonplace while prowling some of the deeper edges will put anglers in contact with larger bones that can go into the ten pound plus category. Huge barracuda, permit, and a smattering of small tarpon complete the line-up, though the focus is usually on the bonefish. All fishing is done via wading, with large pangas on hand to deliver anglers and guides to different flats throughout the day. Accommodations on Gran Roque, the chains only inhabited island, are modern and inviting, with all the standard amenities and a large dose of friendly hospitality.
