Tarpon - Rio Chico - Venezuela
Imagine the Florida Everglades, only at
the turn of the century, unspoiled and undeveloped. Rio Chico is that
place, only in the 21st century. Protected against development by the
Venezuelan government, Rio Chico’s miles of shoreline and hundreds of
islands make it an ideal tarpon "nursery." Tarpon average three to 15
pounds, with occasional fish over 50 pounds, even 100 pounds in rare
instances. When action is hot, feeding tarpon can cover an entire cove,
rolling on the surface, slashing at bait. It’s not uncommon to jump
30 or more in a day’s fishing. Because of their diminutive size, trout
sized tackle is typically utilized, without the extended battles often
encountered with outsize, 80 pound plus silver kings. Accommodations
are in a small, inviting hotel just minutes outside the park. All the
right amenities are there, from pool to air conditioning, plus well
prepared meals.
