Tarpon - Rio Indio Lodge - Nicaragua

Perhaps the most impressive lodge in Latin America. No expense was spared in it's construction and the result is nothing short of spectacular.  The main lodge is huge, with high beamed ceilings, exceptional use of local hardwoods, and an tremendous number of small touches that clearly make this a special spot. A large screen, satellite TV graces the adjacent bar. The large, professional kitchen would be the envy of most cooks, and Rio Indio's professional chef produces memorable meals each day.

Equally inviting guest rooms all feature two queen beds, two overhead fans, a huge bathroom with walk in shower, tiled porch and lots of other extras.  Covered walkways connect all the buildings. Beautiful grounds, dotted with a huge assortment of local plants and trees, have been created so the lodge is complimented by its lush surroundings. At days end, enjoy a dip in the lodge's unique, riverside pool.

Fishing these unspoiled waters brings plenty of excitement and satisfaction.  Venture out into the nearby Caribbean for tarpon, which run 50 to 80 pounds on average. When conditions are right, it's not uncommon to run into schools of 25 to 50 active, aggressive fish.  Snook prowl the river mouths as well as the nearby Rio Indio and tributaries. For the freshwater angler, there's tons of opportunities for great fun with a trio of local exotic. Machaca, Mojarra and Guapote are like our bass and bluegill, only larger and stronger. They slam a wide array of bass type lures, from crankbaits and jigs to spinnerbaits and topwaters, plus love to attack a fly rod popper. Guides grew up in the region and know the many hidden lagoons as well as the main river.

Rio Indio is also the perfect spot for guests interested in eco-tourist types of activities.  Specialized paths have been created around the lodge to allow guests easy viewing of the regions many species of birds, while comfortable boats take guests throughout the local rivers and lagoons to observe abundant wildlife, birds and butterflies
