Tarpon - Sikalanaka - Honduras

Honduras’ Brus Lagoon offers the tarpon angler a world of possibilities. Much desired small tarpon are plentiful. These explosive five to 20 pounders hit with abandon, taking to the air almost as soon as the hook is felt. On light freshwater casting/spinning outfits or a bonefish size fly rod, they are always a delightful adversary. Larger tarpon are also a major focus. While sometimes mixed in with the babies, fishing the broad bar mouth where Brus merges into the Caribbean as well as the ocean itself are more typical choices for tarpon that regularly exceed 100, even 150 pounds. When seas are calm, it’s not uncommon to encounter large schools of silver kings rolling on the surface, or chasing schools of baitfish. Small creeks and rivers that flow into Brus provide good snook habitat. Trophies in the 15 to 20 pound plus range are possible. And when conditions are favorable anglers can venture out to the blue water, where a world of wahoo, dorado, jack and tuna await. Sikalanka maintains a small fleet of new, 23’ fiberglass pangas. These broad beamed boats provide a stable, comfortable fishing platform for each day’s excursion. English speaking guides are included for each pair of anglers. All have fished these waters previously, know its many intricacies and are experienced in a range of approaches, from fly fly fishing to casting or even trolling. Sikalanka Lodge sits on an expansive, scenic lagoon off the Sigre River, one of the major feeders into Brus. The lodge is constructed entirely of attractive native hardwoods. Duplex cottages feature two large separate, double occupancy bedrooms, each with overhead fans, electricity, two double beds and a spacious private bathroom with hot showers. The main lodge has both lounge and dining room. The small size of the lodge (maximum capacity is eight anglers) and the large staff insure plenty of attention and flexibility.;
