Peacock Bass - Thaimacu Lodge - Brazil
Thaimacu Lodge is a most unique lodge, a must for the angler who wants to sample the incredible variety the Brazilian Amazon basin has to offer. Located on a small, sub tributary of the Rio Negro branch of the Amazon, the lodge is in an exceptionally isolated and pristine environment devoid of any signs at all of civilization, but rich in a wide array of gamefish and wildlife. Peacock bass are always a favorite target. A rare strain of pavon, with vivid red sides thrives in the Rio San Benedito, home waters to Thaimacu. While trophy pavon are not commonplace, there’s plenty of potential for fast action on fish that average three to six pounds, with plenty in the 8 to
10 lb. range. Payara are plentiful as well, distributed throughout the river system, and concentrated by several series of rapids within easy reach of the lodge. Many of the species at Thaimacu will be new to North American anglers-matrixna, pacu, amara, all
unheralded but great sporting gamefish. Several species of catfish, some of which regularly eclipse
100 pounds, are also present and a favorite target of trophy hunters.
Outpost camps maintained by the lodge provide additional opportunities on other smaller tributaries easily reached from the main lodge. No matter where guests elect to fish, they’ll always be in a stable, modern fishing boat with comfortable seats, up to date outboards and a guide who knows this intricate region well.
Thaimacu’s accommodations provide a most comfortable oasis in this unsettled wilderness. Guest rooms are fully
air-conditioned, with full bathrooms and hot water showers in each unit as well. The spacious dining room serves meals which always draw lots of positive comments, and the family run operation keeps things running smoothly and with a very personal touch.
